With well over 100 resorts to be found in the Maldives, and another twenty expected in the next year, choosing where to stay can be overwhelming.
If you are travelling with children, look no further. Many resorts offer great kids clubs and family friendly facilities, but to make it on to this shortlist the resort has to offer something a bit extra. Something to stand out above the rest.
I’d love to hear your experience of travelling with children in the Maldives. Leave me a note in the comments or directly at carly@fleewinter.com if have any recommendations – I’m always looking for an excuse to head out on another research trip…
Bye for now!

Kandima
It’s almost overwhelming how much there is to do on this island. I especially love it for families with mixed aged children, as there is plenty for all ages from toddlers right up to teenagers.
KandiLand is open from 8am – 8pm (parents – how good is this?!) for ages 4 up to 12 and inside there are waterslides, a climbing wall, ball pit, kid-sized table tennis and more. You can take the younger children in to enjoy the facilities supervised by you as well, or leave them there with a personal babysitter – no pre-booking required, so you can just go with the flow on your holiday. In-villa babysitting can be arranged too, so you can go out for dinner while they sleep. A dream for everyone.
Lily beach
It’s the little touches here that make Lily Beach so family friendly (and I suspect designed by parents). The children’s playground that is shaded by trees. The shallow children’s splash pool. The impromptu movie screenings.
There is also a cool submarine so children can get a good look at the marine life, little children’s dining areas in the restaurants so they can eat with their new friends and serve themselves from the small buffet stations, and the Turtle Kids Club takes children from 3 to 12, often putting on extra special events during school holiday seasons. Outstanding.
Kihavah
The luxury on this island is almost indescribable, which will keep the grown ups happy. And so will the learning theme that the kids activities have. Anyone 4 to 14 can join the resident marine biologist for a collection of age appropriate activities that are true adventures – from learning to snorkel or scuba dive, hopping on a boat trip to spot dolphins and identify other marine life, or visiting a nearby island to swim with turtles.
There is also a trampoline park, babysitting service for children 3 months plus, a great kids club for ages 4 to 12, child sized bathrobes in the villas and daily beach games suitable for the whole family. Family friendly heaven.
